As a single female, I was quite concerned for my safety here. The room door didn’t lock properly and there was no safety chair. Smokers and a large dog were on each level, and the grounds were dirty and damaged. There were slip hazards when it rained. The online pictures don’t show the motel’s actual condition. My room had heavy damage on all the walls and doors, and the spa bath leaked faster than I could fill it. The bed was so uncomfortable that I checked out early. The couch smelled of cigarettes and dirty odours. There was no decent glassware, no power point near the bed, and the TV only worked on every second channel. There were no cleaners or housekeeping, no toilet brush and not even a decent rubbish bin. It was clear that most occupants were people who might be considered homeless or unable to secure regular housing other than a motel.

I would never stay here again, even if someone paid me. After I complained, the manager didn’t address any of my issues and offered 20% off a future stay. I then complained to Best Western Head office, who said it was down to the manager. Their response made things even worse. The room photos on the website are false and totally misleading. The room we got looked like it was from the sixties, and the second room, after we complained, was hardly any better. There were dents in the walls, dirty spots from dead insects all over the blinds, a rusty soap dish in the shower and electrical cables coming out of the walls inside cupboards. The electrical appliances were years past when they should have been tested. We walked past many other rooms and they all looked the same. This is the worst Best Western I’ve ever stayed at. It shouldn’t have “Best” in the name.

The hallways from the lift were very dirty, with worn, unclean carpet. The balcony was filthy and had mould growing on the walls. Inside, both couches were filthy and need a good steam clean. A massive leak mark on the master bedroom ceiling had been painted over. The place had a terrible smell in the first room, room 125, at the Tudor at Box Hill, where I arrived on Friday for a funeral. It was so bad I wondered if an animal had died there. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling corners, and the room looked tired and worn out. The carpet was filthy, the fridge leaked, and there was a questionable brown mark on the bathroom door, which wouldn’t close. I asked to be moved across the road to the Tudor apartments. That room was just as bad, though perhaps a little better since it didn’t smell. The sheets, quilt and blanket hadn’t been changed and smelled stale. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned, the bedside tables were unwiped and dirty, and the walls were unclean. They clearly have no pride in the accommodation they provide to paying guests, which is unacceptable. If you stay here, make sure your tetanus shots are up to date, or better still, stay as far away as possible.

Reception at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The location is good, but the place clearly needs investment to modernise it. The rooms were kind of okay, with odd bits of furniture. The bed linen was clean but worn and looked like it hadn’t been replaced for a long time. The towels were great, but the spa bath seemed to have leftovers from the previous occupant, short and curlies. I guess you get what you pay for.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is convenient, close to shops, restaurants and transport. Great stay at ibis Melbourne Glen Waverley, with good value for money and a pleasant experience.
