Best Western Queen Victoria Market Hotel

The room was a bit compact, but it had enough space for a night or a few. Everything felt new, modern and comfortable, and the place was clean. The location was good too. I’d book at BW again next time I’m in Melbourne.

The desk staff member was fantastic, really helpful and went well beyond what was needed. The place is quiet and clean, the beds and pillows are comfy, and it’s well placed for transport, shops, the market and a park. The price was good too, and we had a pleasant, convenient stay. We’ll come back. A few practical things would make it better: more storage, cutlery beyond a teaspoon, extra towels and toilet paper that’s at least two ply. A microwave and toaster in the shared area would help, since eating out isn’t affordable or practical for everyone. We had to bring our own knife and fork and toilet paper. Also, the vending machine took my money twice, so be careful.

Once inside, the room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the bathroom a good size, with hot water straight away. It was very clean, and our room at the back was quiet. We didn’t have a view, but that didn’t matter. The staff were efficient and very helpful. Queen Victoria Market’s food hall is about a three minute walk away, and the CBD is around ten minutes on foot. The exterior made me think “Oh God” when I first arrived. It’s very understated, with just a small Best Western logo sign, and reception was closed when I landed. It feels more like a guest house than a full hotel, but once you’re inside, things are good.

We arrived with a luggage problem after getting off the plane, and the staff were patient and helped us sort it out. They spoke Chinese, and also asked about our plans for the days ahead. Everyone was warm and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable, with a cosy feel, and the location was excellent. The service and comfort were even better than at the five star hotel we stayed in in Sydney. I’d choose this place again if I return to Melbourne.
