The city centre is easy to get around on foot, and the train station is only a short walk away. There’s a bar on site and places to eat all around. I stayed three nights; the room was basic but clean, and the staff were very helpful. There’s a work site next door, so there was some noise.

The room service was available daily, and the room was clean. I stayed in a box room, which suited one person or a couple on a budget. The staff were friendly too. Since the hotel is in the city, it’s easy to catch a tram or walk to restaurants, grocery shops and Southern Cross railway station.

The staff were great, and the price was okay for somewhere central. But that shower door is maybe half a metre wide, so if you’re over 90 kg, good luck getting through without soaping up first. The bathroom is ridiculously small. I’ve had bigger ones on a cruise ship. Only one elevator was working. As far as we could tell, the other one had been out for five months. You get what you pay for.

We had a great one-night stay, and the location was perfect. The staff were so kind that they let us check in at 10.45am, which almost never happens. There were no windows in the room, and an annoying noise came on whenever someone showered. For just one night it wasn’t a big deal, and the good points outweighed that. I’d stay again for the location.

The bed was comfy, and the room was clean, tidy and just right for what I needed. But the male staff member who greeted me when I checked in seemed seriously unenthusiastic and like he couldn’t care less about guests. Not the best first impression for Best western.
