Spencer Street Apartments

We stayed in the two-bedroom apartment facing the street. We’d booked a one-bedroom, but they upgraded us because one was available. It was very clean, well equipped, and had plenty of kitchen utensils and appliances, so we could make most of our meals there. There was also useful storage for a longer stay. It’s at a quiet end of the city, about a 10-15 minute walk to Southern Cross and 5-10 minutes to trams. Service was really good. If you want somewhere simple and functional with good proximity, I’d highly recommend it.

We got very friendly, attentive service. Staff let us leave our bags in the lobby before check-in and after checkout, explained Melbourne’s metro system and how to get around, and helped me find the best rate for the room I wanted while taking my requests into account. The room was cosy and had the expected amenities, all functional and easy to use. The balcony was nice and had a peaceful view. A few things looked a little broken, but nothing was functionally wrong. Once we’d learned which tram stop to use, getting there was easy. It’s accessible and friendly, and within walking distance of QV Markets, Spencer Street Outlets and other places if you’re happy to walk more than 10 minutes. I’ll be back.

The apartments are in a perfect CBD spot, close to places we wanted to visit like Queen Vic Markets. Staff were happy to advise us on public transport routes, and everyone was friendly and accommodating. Customer service was 10/10. They also held our luggage before check-in and after checkout while we were waiting to leave Melbourne. We had a fantastic stay at Spencer St Apartments.

I’m writing this with real disgust. We booked a room for an employee in January 26 for a March 26 stay. Then they called and demanded another $3200 on the existing booking to keep the room. The receptionist had made a mistake, but instead of treating it as their mistake, they forced the room to be cancelled and left us having to pay for it. It’ll be interesting to see what ASIC says about this. If you’re in corporate business, don’t book here. They may cancel at any time and try to triple the price on an existing booking. There are plenty of other places with basic human courtesy and duty of care. I don’t recommend them.
