For a short work stay, this was comfortable and easy. The rooms were clean, the bed was comfy, and the service was really good. Nothing fancy, but the price is fair and the St Kilda location is great. A good option for a brief visit.

The standout for me was Steve, who was friendly, accommodating, and clearly takes pride in looking after guests. The rooms could use an upgrade, and there’s no lift, something to bear in mind with heavy bags or mobility needs. Tolano Hotel has plenty of character, from the unusual artwork to the heritage feel and the interesting mix of people staying there. It’s an old place that’s showing its age, but that’s part of its charm. Right in the middle of things, it offers good value if you want a budget base and prefer history and personality to modern luxury. Don’t expect a five star hotel, it needs some care, but it was a fun, memorable stay and I’d recommend it to anyone after a distinctive budget hotel.

The colourful paintings give the place a bright, lively feel, and the staff were friendly and really helpful. It was my first time in St Kilda, and I’d happily stay here again. The tram runs right by, with plenty of cafes and pubs nearby. Honestly, a great place.

Steven at the front desk was great and helpful, and the location is excellent. The first room we got smelled of urine, so we had to switch. The hotel has promise and must once have been a quirky St Kilda spot, but it’s now very run down and felt a little sketchy at times. I hope the new owners give it the care it needs while keeping the soul of Mirkas establishment. A cosmetic refresh, especially the carpets, bathrooms, and paint, would go a long way. I really wanted to love it here and hope it gets that attention.

Steven is Tolarno hotel to me. His customer service is outstanding, and he bent over backwards while I was there. I hope he’s paid well, because he works harder than almost anyone I’ve seen. Five stars for Steven.
