Hotel Grand Chancellor Melbourne

I’ve stayed here a number of times over the years for functions in the city, and it’s great value for a city hotel. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. Staff are happy and friendly, the morning showers are hot with good pressure, and there’s a large buffet selection of hot and cold breakfast options. I’ll definitely stay again.

I spent nearly five weeks at Grand Chancellor while in the city for work and had a great experience. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, the location was good, and the staff were consistently polite and friendly. I’d definitely return. Breakfast was a 10/10 each morning, with something for everyone and food that was always fresh and nice. I didn’t try room service. The hot food was the usual sort of options, eggs, bacon, hash browns, beans and pancakes. A big thank you to Allen and the other restaurant and breakfast staff. They filled my drink bottle with ice every morning without hesitation, which I really appreciated. Housekeeping also found one of my earrings on the bedside table after it fell out overnight and left it somewhere I could find it. I’m so grateful, as I hadn’t realised I’d lost it. I stayed in two rooms on floor 7, one on floor 12, I think, and two on floor 16. The room on floor 7 was my favourite, though all were fine. My last week, I was next to the garbage chute on floor 16, and there was an unpleasant smell outside the room. It may have been from the chute. It didn’t really affect my stay, though I held my breath a bit when going in and out. Still a 10/10 overall.

The staff were phenomenal, and our late night room service arrived quickly and tasted delicious. We were upgraded to a corner view room for our anniversary in August, which was a lovely surprise. The rooms are spacious and clean, but the beds were awful and we slept badly. At this price, I think they should be more comfortable, especially given the location and amenities. There is parking if you book a spot and one is available, or overnight spaces a few blocks away if you’re driving. A decent place overall.

May at the buffet breakfast is wonderful, always smiling and ready to help. Melinda has also been fantastic, going above and beyond for us, and Bree, I think the afternoon manager, has helped us in many ways and made sure we were looked after. The place is always clean and comfortable, with great staff who want guests to enjoy their stay. It’s close to Central and the trams, and most places in the CBD are within walking distance.
