The tasting plate was very nice, the staff were friendly, and the setting was pleasant. I’d like to visit again in daylight to see the surrounding land, and I may try the place again when the menu changes, but I won’t rush back. A few things with the mains could be better. A light sauce would have suited the duck. The mushroom “porridge” had reduced too much and was dry and very salty, even for someone like me who loves salt and uses it on everything. The lovely vegetables were overcooked and could have kept more flavour and crunch. The potatoes, though, were excellent. Also, some lighting in the car park would help; we had trouble seeing as we got into the car.

This place is adorable and such a cosy, cute surprise for a tasty lunch. Lots of restaurants on the peninsula are very fancy, so it’s nice to find somewhere like this. It’s right opposite Red Hill Market, and the restaurant is quaint, with fresh flowers on the tables and really friendly wait staff. We took my grandparents and my husband for Saturday lunch. We had the duck, barramundi and wallaby, all delicious, though the duck was a little too salty for me even though I love salt. The dishes tasted fresh, and the portions were enough for a meal, though not huge. The garden salad seemed ridiculously small for $11 and came on a plate that was awkward to share. At $21, the tasting platter also felt expensive for some bread, a small bit of fetta, a tiny amount of olives and crackers. My husband was pleased they had fresh scones that day and said they were delicious. We shared a sorbet too, but it was way too sweet for us to finish. The drive down to the restaurant is pretty rough. We had an SUV, and I wouldn’t want to try it in a smaller car. I’d driven past many times and thought it was just a conference centre, so maybe clearer signage would help. Still, give it a try if you’re in the area, you may be pleasantly surprised.

We found this place by chance, and I’m so glad we did. The menu makes thoughtful use of produce grown on the property and meat from local farms. With a new kitchen team and a very talented chef behind it, Harvest Garden Restaurant has become one of the best places I’ve eaten.

We first loved dinner here a few years back, then returned recently for breakfast. It was amazingly tasty. Such a nice spot to relax in the fresh air and enjoy fresh food.

Lovely place, and the staff were friendly. A little pricey, though.
