Ritz For Backpackers

Five months here and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to live. It feels like living with a family, and it’s the best hostel in Melb. You’ll honestly never want to leave. Special shoutout to Jodie, who does everything she can to make sure we have a great stay. 🥹❤️

The kitchen is great and the facilities are clean. It’s a good hostel for a short or long stay, and being on the smaller side makes it easy to meet people. Special shoutout to Neil for helping everyone feel safe and keeping things running smoothly.

I spent three months here and had a great time. The prices were good, and there were lots of other backpackers staying for a while, so we had a good time together. The kitchen is super clean, and the staff are lovely. 🫶🏻

The room was comfortable, and we were given a twin room instead of a dorm, which was nice. The hostel was clean, the common areas and bathrooms were kept tidy, the location was good, and having a security code was a sensible idea. In general, the facilities worked well and we had a comfortable stay. Our main issue was noise from the common area and courtyard right beside our room. People were talking until 1 or 2 am most nights. I know the bar downstairs will have music and noise, so this isn’t about that. The quiet-hours rule didn’t seem to be enforced, and people were still extremely loud after 11 pm, sometimes until 2 am. That was annoying when we had an early start. One guest walked past and hit our door. We heard someone tell him, “these are rooms you know,” which made it seem like he didn’t consider other guests and probably hadn’t been told about quiet hours at check-in. More bathrooms and toilets would help. I also think fewer bedrooms, a bigger kitchen and more places to eat or spend time would make the hostel better. There wasn’t room for our food in the fridges, which were crammed full. I think it may have been food belonging to long-term guests, but I’m not sure. A system for food and bags for each room would be useful.
