The deck at sunset was a highlight. We ended up having a cheese platter and wine there, then cooked pasta and relaxed in the spa instead of going into Healesville for dinner. The larder had an incredible range of gourmet providore items, and the pasta ingredients were delicious. The whole stay felt special from arrival at Kangaroo Ridge Retreat, where a kangaroo greeted us. The views are breathtaking, the lawns are immaculate, and the native wildlife makes for a peaceful soundtrack. There’s so much care in the details, from cosy pyjamas and robes to bath amenities, body scrub and heated towels. Only wish we’d stayed longer. We’ll absolutely be back!

Rebecca was a wonderful, friendly host who communicated well and really wanted us to get the most from our stay. We spent three nights in mid March as her guests in one of the two cabins, and it was perfect for us. It’s a peaceful, private place, and the cabin felt much more spacious than the photos suggested. The balcony was ideal for relaxing too. We weren’t sure what to expect from the stocked larder since everyone’s tastes differ, but it was full of fabulous food and we never wanted for anything. The pasta ingredients were just right, and it was fun to make and eat the meal with a bit of imagination. The BBQ pack was a wow, especially the huge rib, enough for two, sizzling on the electric BBQ for dinner outside. Rebecca says ahead of time that you don’t need to bring anything, and she was right. We also booked the Vineyard tour with Stephen of Yarra Valley Winetours. It made for a great day: three Vineyards and a Gin distillery, with plenty of wine at the tastings. Steels Gate Wines and Yering Farm Wines deserve a mention. They’re small family-run places, more relaxed and down to earth than the Chandon’s of the world, though those are fantastic too. We could chat with owners and staff, and the food was amazing. That Gin flight at the end of the day finished us off! A peaceful, calming break with something a little different and indulgent. We’d do it again.

The cabins were beautifully decorated and had everything we could want for an indulgent weekend. The larder supplies and wine cellar were outstanding, and everything in the cabin worked just as it should. Arranging weekend experiences was easy thanks to the great support, and communication before arrival was excellent. Even the downloadable door key worked seamlessly. We had an amazing weekend at Kangaroo Ridge Retreat.

KRR is a real gem in the Yarra Valley, with spectacular mountain views and a beautifully designed cabin. From arrival, the little touches stood out, including a set of PJs on the bed. There’s a tempting range of gourmet local ingredients and a simple recipe, so it’s easy to decide to stay in instead of going into town for dinner. The wine selection is great too, and the personalised glassware and plates are a nice touch. Everything feels thoughtfully prepared for an easy, enjoyable stay. At night, sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine and watching the stars is lovely. The place has a relaxing feel, and you can unwind surrounded by nature with quality amenities.

A year later, I’m still thinking about our stay at KR. The cabins feel like a little oasis, with a personal larder and wine cellar right there when you arrive. There’s so much to take in, including the thoughtful decor, lovely extras, and all those tempting treats and local drinks. Give yourself time to enjoy what’s provided, including the things flying in and out. Rebecca is a special host who puts real care into the cabins and is easy to contact if you need help. You’re still close to nature, with all its unpredictability, but it’s a wonderful place to recharge. If I lived in Victoria, I’d come back for stargazing from the cabin, especially during this week’s spectacular parade in the sky. Cheers! 🥂
