Mercure Welcome Melbourne

The room was ready early, clean, and had everything we needed, including extra milk and towels. It was small, but the beds were comfortable, and our room on the sixth floor was quiet despite being right in central Melbourne. The location was exactly right for us, with lots of good eateries nearby, as well as Haigh chocolates and the theatre. There was a booking error, but the front office staff were friendly and helpful, and it was corrected quickly. We paid more than the room was worth because of the error, but the hotel accommodated us and credited the incorrect booking. I was very grateful. I'd choose it again for a night or two.

The room was tiny, worn, and dirty, with barely enough space to move around the bed. That bed was extremely uncomfortable, and almost impossible to sleep in. The whole property feels neglected and decades out of date, with none of the basic modern comforts I'd expect from the Mercure or Accor brand. At this price, the experience is unacceptable. I'm a platinum member and have stayed at dozens of Accor properties around the world, which I've generally found reliable and reasonably comfortable. This hotel completely undermines that reputation. It's genuinely one of the worst hotels I've stayed in, and without question the worst Accor property I've experienced. There are countless better options in Melbourne. Accor should be embarrassed to have this place carrying its name.

The location, staff, and breakfast are great, and the coffee is proper coffee. If you're arriving by car, though, it's hard to stop out front. There's a side lane, but only if nobody else is using it. I think the hotel should give guests fair warning about the parking difficulties.

The room was old and tiny, and didn't look like the images on the hotel's website. The facilities also felt old. Housekeeping wasn't provided daily, and even after it was offered as a fix, it still didn't happen. There are no leisure facilities like a gym, pool, or sauna, and no bar or restaurant either. Breakfast was very poor and limited, with no cheese, tomatoes, or variety of bread. Even eggs were in short supply, and the machine for poached eggs was broken. I raised these points politely during my stay and contacted both hotel management and Accor customer care. I stayed in Jan26, and the experience fell short of what I'd expect from a four-star hotel. It's certainly far from a standard Accor four-star property. I hope this helps future guests set their expectations.
