Motel Maroondah

From the outside, the motel looked quite run-down, but the room was great for the price. It had a microwave, fridge, toaster, split system for heating and air conditioning, and a shower with excellent hot water. Getting the temperature right was tricky, though, since it swung between scalding and ice cold. The windows didn't block much sound, and the heater was a bit noisy, but it was still well worth the cost.

The beds were comfortable, the shower had good hot water, and the air conditioning worked well. There's a basic TV, and the neighbours were so friendly. We'd stay again at that price!

I left after one night even though I'd booked two. The room had no heating and was freezing, and the disinfectant smell gave way after a few hours to a sewerage smell from under the bathroom, possibly a burst pipe. The curtains didn't cover the windows, and floodlights aimed straight at the rooms made it really bright. It was clean, but there was so much else wrong that cleanliness didn't make up for it. The motel needs a refurbishment. I won't be back.

I paid $146 and found the room hot and smelly. A staff member brought me a portable air con, but it rattled all night. At least that covered some of the noise from the permanent residents. The fridge leaked, and the shower head came off the wall under the water pressure, flooding the bathroom. There was no TV remote; when I asked, I was told the TVs were being replaced as part of renovations and didn't work. A room shouldn't be rented in that condition. Power points were coming out of the walls, and the door chain didn't feel safe. As a 64-year-old woman staying alone, I felt unsafe. The website was completely misleading. I raised the problems with reception in the morning and suggested a discount, but she just looked at me and didn't respond. I wouldn't stay there again. It felt very dodgy.
