Playhouse Apartments

The rooms were nice and had plenty of facilities, but the building was confusing to navigate, especially the car park. We had a wedding party spread across several rooms and floors, and getting to other rooms was difficult without the right passes. The groom got stuck in the fire escape, and we nearly had our own ‘Hangover’ scenario. Reception was very minimal, and they gave four adults in one room just 1 key. We only got a second after asking.

The location in Abbotsford was the main draw for me, tucked down a side road near the Terminus hotel among apartment blocks and quiet dead-end streets. I was there to visit a friend from interstate, and the place was busy even shortly after 6, with people coming and going. The entrance has separate in and out drives beside the parking areas, and the reception is roomy, with lots of places to sit while waiting. Four lifts serve the ten floors. I went up to the ninth and found a pleasant, compact apartment with two bedrooms, a bathroom and toilet, a small kitchen, an airy lounge and a balcony. The view may not be much, but being able to step out for a cigarette without going down nine floors was a real plus. It seems like a good place to use as a base if you’ll spend most of your time out visiting old haunts, then come back to rest and freshen up. I only stayed a couple of hours, so I can’t say much beyond that, but I wouldn’t hesitate to book. The room seemed better than many others, and the location is great. I forgot to ask what my friend paid, so check the price and decide from there.

We stayed here over AFL grand final weekend and everything was so quiet and spotlessly clean. We had all we needed within walking distance, and I couldn’t fault the place. The reception staff were wonderful, especially Vivienne? who went out of her way to help us carry our luggage up to the apartment. Thank you!

The river and city views are good, and the apartment was clean with good service. You do have to pay extra for parking on site. It’s good value if you book through Groupon or catch a special. The apartments seem new, probably built around 2015-2016.
