Quest Windsor

The location was good, and having a washing machine and ironing board was handy. The rest was rough. The room was quite dirty, and the beds felt like concrete slabs. The showers were tiny. I'm 5'9 and had to keep my knees bent the whole time. The lift is extremely old and jolts between floors. I had to hold the handrail to stay upright. When we asked the staff member about nearby food, she just shrugged. She seemed uninterested and wasn't helpful.

The WiFi was useless, the television needs attention, there was no hair dryer, and items used from the minibar weren't replaced. The unit also had big cracks in the walls, unfinished renovations and an incompletely installed towel rack. There was cutlery in the drawer with food stuck to it, a dirty comb in the balcony door that was still there after our room was cleaned, a coffee table that hadn't been wiped, and snot on a door jamb that remained after cleaning. The carpet was filthy and didn't seem to have been vacuumed during our stay. The cupboards were in a disgusting state too. The worst part was the blanket we wanted to use. It had bright pink lipstick on it and what we could only describe as mucus. Reception's response was unprofessional. We had to ask twice before a replacement was brought up, and the gentleman at the front desk gave us a wry smile and acted casually about what felt like a real health issue. We found that abhorrent. Staff competence was terrible, and they need customer service retraining. Our whole stay was horrible, and we resented paying for the room. We'll tell Alfred Hospital that, because of the unhealthy conditions we experienced, we don't think it should recommend Quest Windsor for hospital stays. Never again.

The staff were excellent and very helpful, but I feel they're wasted at this establishment. A more upmarket hotel should headhunt them. The owners seem not to see the place the way travellers do. Public transport is close by, and the location is great. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was good, but the lounge suite was horrible. The lounge room, kitchen and kitchen equipment were old and well past their use-by date. The rooms need a major refurbishment. For a three-star place, I had no fault with the bed or bathroom, but those other areas really took away from the comfort. Sorry to complain, but lovely staff and a great location don't make up for that.

It took several tries each time before the room card would let us in. The room was also quite dark, and the bathroom had a few problems: mould in the shower, a tight squeeze to get into the cubicle that could be difficult for larger people, a door that wouldn't slide fully shut, and vinyl flooring that felt dirty. The door also meant there was no privacy in the bathroom. The location was convenient, with a quick tram ride to Chapel St. There was a kitchen, though we didn't use it, so I can't say whether it had the right cooking equipment. The bathroom had a full-size hair dryer as well as a washer and dryer, which would be handy for a longer stay.
