Summer House Backpackers Melbourne

The rooms are clean and comfortable, and it’s easy to meet people here. Summer House St Kilda has a really welcoming, social feel, with good facilities and great energy. I’m loving my stay and would definitely recommend it.

St Kilda is a fun area to stay, with the beach and nightlife both an easy walk away. Hotel Barkly downstairs is a great pub, and it’s fun to socialise there with other backpackers. The food and drinks are reasonably priced. The hostel itself is very clean, quiet time is respected, and the spacious rooms each have an en-suite bathroom.

The staff at Summer House were a real credit to the brand. They went out of their way to help with whatever we needed, and the place is more modern and spacious than the ancient Sydney one we stayed at. There’s a lift, and the corridors and rooms have plenty of space. Our stay was mostly positive, though it is a youth hostel, and you get what you pay for. In our early thirties, we may be less tolerant of some of the usual inconveniences. The kitchen gets crowded, and there wasn’t proper space for groceries, either in the fridge or outside it. Each room has a toilet and shower, which seemed good at first, but one roommate took half an hour to shower at 2am. The only other toilets in the building are on the rooftop floor, which is closed at night. Having one accessible toilet for situations like that would help, though it could be tricky to arrange. Management could also make accessibility details clear on the website and put a couple of seats at reception. My partner had injured her knees and found stairs and standing for long stretches difficult. Those small changes would have made a big difference for us.

Summerhouse rocks! Jade is awesome, and the staff are great. There are loads of clean common areas to hang out in, plus free barbecues, movie nights, and beach volleyball. Happy hour has $8 jugs too. Love this place, you should stay here!
