The Lyall

John deserves a special mention for some great recommendations, and the staff generally were friendly and helpful. We spent four nights at The Lyall and came away mostly positive. The location is good, and we’d definitely return, but we’d go out for breakfast instead. The food and coffee were good, but the breakfast inclusive package came with a very odd restriction: we could choose just one item from one list, and one coffee if we selected juice. The whole setup felt awkward, and I got the impression the staff were a bit embarrassed by it. It didn’t fit the experience of a five star hotel. In a month travelling around Aus, this was the only hotel where breakfast was regulated like that.

We had such a lovely time at the Lyall. The rooms were beautiful, with a calming outlook over all the greenery, and the bathroom and shower felt luxurious. The beds were so comfortable, with the nicest sheets. The staff were kind and lovely to chat with, and they went above and beyond in their service. It’s a perfect location, with plenty to do and lovely walks nearby. Can’t wait to come back.

We especially enjoyed breakfast at the Lyall Bistro, served in a relaxed setting. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly, attentive and ready to go the extra mile. The rooms were spacious, beautifully designed and kept immaculate, with private balconies and quality amenities that made us feel at home. The calm, refined atmosphere brought comfort and elegance together. The Lyall Hotel is one of the finest boutique hotels we’ve stayed in Melbourne. From arrival, we felt welcomed by the genuine warmth, professionalism and care given to the little details. Its South Yarra location is quiet and sophisticated, yet close to cafes, restaurants, boutiques and public transport. With those shops and dining spots nearby, the area was ideal. It’s luxury without pretence, with heartfelt service and exceptional comfort. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely be back.

The atmosphere is stylish but still really relaxing, and the rooms are impeccable. The staff are amazing, always attentive and accommodating. It feels like a home away from home. One of Melbourne’s most elegant boutique hotels.
