Terama Ski Lodge

The kids liked having other children around during the school holidays, which kept them entertained too. We had a comfortable family stay, and the lodge was very clean with all the amenities we could want.

Annie and Darren were managing the lodge during our stay, and when one of our guests was injured, they went above and beyond to help him. The place has a relaxed, family friendly feel. It’s a short walk or shuttle ride to the village, with lovely views from the shared dining and lounge area. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the drying room kept our ski clothes dry. We couldn’t fault it.

We felt uncomfortable about our privacy from the start, and never really felt able to relax. It felt more like being in a prison or hostel than somewhere to unwind. I understand that rules matter, but there seemed to be rules for everything, from the entrance to the bed, toilet, and kitchen. The breakfast was very basic and cheap. The service wasn’t good enough, and unlike even a small motel, it wasn’t refilled when it ran out. We weren’t satisfied with the service or the lack of privacy.

The rooms are pretty small, with bunk beds, a wardrobe, table, mirror, and heater, but the communal space is roomy and the kitchen is good. Each room gets its own fridge section, though there’s no freezer. Coffee, tea, chocolate, and breakfast are included, with pancakes, cereal, toast, canned fruit, jam, butter, and more. I liked the pancake machine. The shared bathrooms and toilets downstairs were clean and spacious. The managers are really friendly and helpful. The drying room is on the small side, and the heater isn’t strong enough to dry wet clothes overnight. The lodge isn’t very far from the village, but walking in bulky ski boots is hard. Missing the shuttle while wearing ski boots and carrying skis on a warm day would be rough, though that’s not TERAMA’s fault.
