70 On Mortimer

The welcome basket was a lovely touch, and we really enjoyed having a balcony to sit on. My husband and I spent four nights at 70 Mortimer over Christmas, in the Flamingo apartment. The kitchen was fully equipped, and we could walk to everything. Great location, we’d happily recommend it.

We booked Flamingo 🦩 at 70 on Mortimer St for two nights, then added another because we liked the apartment so much. The attention to detail was amazing, it felt like everything had been thought of. My husband and I had a wonderful time in Mudgee. A big thumbs up from Dave & Viv.

We left early after two days because we couldn’t put up with the conditions any longer. The sewage smell was making us physically unwell, and we found effluent from the house overflowing onto the ground a few metres from the back door. At first we thought the smell might be from the construction next door, but by the end of day two we realised what was happening. There was plenty of noise from workers unloading machinery and materials on the street out front, as well as construction behind the property. We were in a ground floor room, and noise from upstairs guests woke us repeatedly. The place was advertised as soundproof, but voices and heavy creaking from the floorboards and joists came through clearly. We were woken at 1.30, 3.00 and 4.30 am by guests making repeated trips to the toilet. We booked somewhere else and contacted the host. The establishment wasn’t fit for purpose during our stay, but we only received a partial refund, a little over $200 from the $750 we paid. I should have checked the reviews first, since several mention upstairs guests, street noise and construction. If you’re considering staying, I’d suggest an upstairs room and checking with the host whether the construction next door has finished and the plumbing has been fixed. Downstairs rooms are absolutely not soundproof.

The location made it easy to walk to the pubs, restaurants and shops, and I’d definitely come back. The host had included all the little extras that made our stay memorable: a welcome pack with bubbly, potato crisps and chocolate, plus fresh milk and a fully equipped kitchen. We couldn’t have asked for more.
