We didn't try the food or go into the bistro, so I can't speak to that. For a beer, though, this wasn't a great stop: the place was empty on a pleasant Saturday afternoon, with no music and no staff in sight unless you went to wait at the bar. The service was just average, drinks were very expensive, and my beer had no head at all. That wasn't because the young guy was training, either. The atmosphere felt like a funeral. If you only want a cold beer, I'd keep going to Healesville, Buxton or Marysville.

The food was a real highlight, with breakfast choices beyond what we expected and a divine dinner. The inn itself is beautiful, and the gardens are exceptional. Everyone on staff was charming, funny, hardworking, talented, interesting or informative, often several of those at once. You can see how much care the owners put into everything, especially quality and looking after their staff. We'll definitely be back.

We found the staff incredibly friendly and polite, and the restaurant team were especially good with customers. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. Our suite was spacious, comfortable, spotless and well maintained, which was a lovely surprise after several disappointing hotels and low expectations. We were there as the surprise destination for an Amazing Co mystery picnic. The only downside was that fallen trees on Dom Dom Road stopped us exploring further. We'll return over the summer break.

We were staying in Marysville and it was only a seven-minute drive to Black Spur Inn Narbethong. Dinner was fantastic, with fresh produce, attentive service from dear Diane and her team, and a gorgeous inn in a great location. Thank you for a wonderful meal. Definitely worth a stop on your next trip!

The calamari was gluten free and cooked perfectly, and its aioli tasted better than any I've had. It didn't seem store-bought. The rest of our table enjoyed two burgers and a beef brisket focaccia, and the whole lunch was delicious with nothing to fault. Patterson Lakes is a bit of a drive away, but if you're up that way, do yourself a favour and stop for a meal.
