Centre of Town

I was just passing through and needed a bed. For $50 total, I got a clean room with A/C, continental breakfast in the dining room and clean shared facilities. There’s a nice street-facing balcony and a lounge area with a TV. It’s a lovely old former hotel and awesome value for money.

Right in the centre of town, this beautiful old building has plenty of historical charm. My small room was tidy and had a bar fridge, TV, air con and ceiling fan. They provided a basic breakfast the next morning: cereal, toast and some fruit. I’d recommend it if you enjoy a historic feel; if you want all the modern comforts, you may prefer somewhere else.

The price was affordable, the owners were friendly and welcoming, and the place was beautifully clean. Lockup parking was a nice bonus, and there was a good variety of breakfast options, though we skipped it since we don’t really eat breakfast. We stayed one night on our way home from holiday. The strong air freshener smell hit me as I entered the room, so I had to open the window. The bed was hard and disappointing for a bed and breakfast, and the toilets were a little dark in the cubicles. Lovely place, just wish the bed had been more comfortable.

I stayed at COT twice and found bed bugs both times, leaving me extensively bitten. On each occasion I quietly and respectfully alerted the staff. The second time, I refused to pay the $70 room fee and was verbally abused and told not to come back. I’m not writing this out of spite, but to warn people. There are bed bugs and the mattresses are filthy and stained, not even fit for a dog to lie on. I reported this to council. Do yourself a favour and STAY AWAY. COT standard have truly dropped. Pay extra and go somewhere else.
