We’ve stayed three times, but after this visit we’ll think twice before coming back. The pool maintenance man was cleaning tiles with acid while my wife was swimming laps, which wasn’t nice. The owners’ large dog roaming around also won’t suit everyone. On the last two stays, the evening receptionist was bitchy and unhelpful. He wouldn’t take a moment to confirm where a restaurant listed on the marketing website was, and required a deposit, saying he didn’t trust us or anyone. He also wouldn’t look up our past check-in details. Maybe it makes for a laugh, but it didn’t after a 700 km drive. The morning receptionists were nice and behaved as expected, which made the careless evening service a shame. Don’t the owners know about hospitality?

I often stay in this area to visit a friend, and after trying The Anchorage, Bannisters, Ramada, The Landmark and Oaks Apartments over the years, Marina Resort is now my favourite. It’s easy to walk around town and sightsee from here, and the value, comfort and location are hard to beat. Bannisters and The Anchorage offer more of a full resort experience where you could spend days onsite, but Marina Resort suits me better. It was beautifully renovated and spotlessly clean, with friendly staff, a quiet atmosphere and an easy walk into town.

The team made us feel welcome throughout our weekend getaway at Marina Resort Nelson Bay, greeting us warmly and taking good care of us. The resort’s design and carefully chosen decor and materials also gave the place a calm, relaxing feel. We had such a lovely stay and will definitely come back.

The front desk team were so helpful, friendly and chatty, with a great vibe. Reggie deserves a special mention too, the hotel dog was such a good boy and happily soaked up all the attention. The accommodation at The Marina Resort in Nelson Bay was stunning, beautifully luxurious and a pleasure to look at. I’d highly recommend staying here!

The pool area was nice, with lots of families having a good time. That did take away a bit from the adult staycation feel, but there was nothing wrong with it, especially with the seaside right there. The location was close enough to town and the beach, and the price was very good value. The renovated rooms are great. The double bed was really two single beds pushed together with a topper, and the sound insulation wasn’t good. As February and Valentine’s approaches, couples should keep that in mind. The hospitality was pleasant enough, but nothing special.
