General Roberts Hotel

The chips were the highlight for me, I hadn’t had such good ones in a long while. The pasta was phenomenal, the burgers were properly cooked and nicely presented, and the loaded fries were good. I also liked the wings, crisp outside but juicy inside. We had dinner as a family of eight, with plenty of room at our large table for plates, food, and the kids’ drawing book and colours. There were enough high chairs, too. Despite a very busy kitchen, our food arrived in 10-12 minutes, which surprised me. Rishab was friendly, welcoming and informative about the dishes, and happily passed on the changes we requested to Chef Subin and the team. Rishab said they had years of food experience and had worked at several Sydney venues before coming here. The kitchen team were impressive, sending food out so easily. After two years in Newcastle, this was the first dining experience that left me feeling so humbled. I had to commend all their hard work. The food, atmosphere and service really amazed me. I’ll definitely return to General Roberts Hotel, and you’ve got a free promoter in me. Huge thanks.

There’s undercover outdoor seating, and it wasn’t too loud. Table service for drinks and nice cocktails were available. Plenty of screens meant different people could watch the sporting event they wanted. The crowd was relatively young, around 20-30.

We had dinner here as a family on a busy night, and the staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The food let us down, though. None of us really enjoyed our meals, which were either overcooked or covered in too much sauce.

I’m 43, have lived in Newcastle all my life, and this was my first visit. The food was absolutely amazing, the staff were super friendly, and for me it was 11/10. Thanks for the food and service, 100% perfect. I’ll definitely be back.
