I’ve stayed in plenty of dives, but this place takes the cake. For $150, I’m furious and want to leave. The pool was closed, the rooms were dirty and smelled of cigarette smoke, and the windows were broken and couldn’t be opened. The air conditioning was dusty and mouldy, and they’d sprayed a toxic-smelling air freshener to cover the smell. I was considering asking for a refund and sleeping in the car with my kids. After we left, my son had bites all over him after being in the bed for ten minutes. It was definitely a bed bug infestation. I did end up leaving, and had to pay a cleaning fee for mess my toddler made. The Indian man working there was very helpful and did try to address my concerns, but that doesn’t change how unsuitable this is for families. This is for hard up linked to housing types, and should be used for that only.

The pool looked badly neglected, with dirty water, debris and discoloration that made it seem unsafe to use. Inside, the beds had bed bugs, and the noise from the hall, other rooms and outside carried on through the night. There was no real chance of getting rest. The whole property felt run down, from the furnishings and fixtures to the shared areas. It came across as years of neglect, not a small maintenance problem. Cleanliness, comfort and basic safety were all below an acceptable standard. I wouldn’t recommend staying here in its current condition.

I’m appalled by how this was handled. I’m a support worker, and after other options fell through over the weekend, I arranged a room for my participant, who was facing homelessness. I called at 10:30am, explained the situation and was told she could check in at 2pm. They also confirmed she had enough money to pay for the room. We drove nearly an hour and arrived at the agreed time, only to be turned away. The staff acted as if they had no idea what we were talking about. We’d been given completely false hope, and there wasn’t even an apology. My participant was left distraught.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the room service was good. I think Mayfield Motel is under new management, and they’re doing a great job. Thanks, I’d stay again.

The new management team made us feel welcome and did their best. Our room was quite clean and comfortable, and we had a pleasant stay.
