We had a 10/10 late lunch in the bistro, around 3:30, and even complimented the chef. The barramundi was cooked really well, with crispy skin, moist fish and lots of vegetables. The bruschetta was tasty too, with fresh, nicely toasted bread and a well-seasoned tomato mix. The chicken tacos came as three full-size tacos, a generous starter portion that could easily be a main. The fried chicken starter was tasty and full of flavour. The kids’ pasta was a decent size for my seven-year-old, though it might be too much for a three-year-old. Thanks for a lovely meal. Sorry, we’d already started eating the chicken and tacos before taking a photo, and didn’t get one of the pasta either.

I booked an overnight room and ordered dinner from the pub menu, but the stay was very disappointing. Cockroaches were everywhere in my room, which was obscene. The air conditioning barely worked and guests couldn’t control it properly. The window wouldn’t lock, which raised safety concerns. I also believe someone entered while I was out. Before leaving, I deliberately put a clothes hanger on the window sill behind the curtain. When I came back, it had somehow ended up on the bed. Staff said no employees had gone upstairs to the accommodation, but the hanger left me feeling extremely uncomfortable and unsettled. The food was mediocre, especially given what I’d heard beforehand. I ordered the Angus beef scotch fillet and found it disappointing for both the price and the reputation. Staff service was inconsistent too. Some were friendly and helpful, particularly those who served drinks, while others seemed rude and dismissive. No fork came with my meal. When I asked, I was told cutlery was self-serve, but later, when I tried to get sauce myself, I was told a staff member had to do it. The mixed messages and attitude were frustrating and unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend staying here as hotel accommodation or return for another stay. It might be fine for a few drinks during happy hour, but I wouldn’t recommend it to friends or family either.

loz was the best seccy I’ve ever met. It was my best friend’s 21st birthday, and after lockout we didn’t even want drinks, just a game of pool to finish the night. She was so kind and friendly and let us play. People like her make a night a good one, and we left happy. I can’t thank loz enough, she made our night. It’s the only reason we love going to sydney junction 🩷🩷

Live it up karaoke is the best show in town, and the vibe at Sj's is fantastic. We had a great night. There’s plenty of room, clean bathrooms, and lovely bar and security staff. The rules are sensible and help keep everyone safe. This is my new local.

If you’re out in Hamilton and love karaoke, stop by Sydney Junction Hotel, aka SJ’s, for Live it up Karaoke. Alicia has a wide variety of songs, and you’re pretty much guaranteed a bloody good night with great music and fabulous vibes. Tell them Nikki sent you. The place is clean, open and air conditioned, with dim lighting that makes for a great vibe, and, most importantly, clean toilets. The staff were fabulous, cleaning tables regularly and being helpful and friendly. RSA staff kept everyone safe, staying in the room and at the door. Thanks to SJ’s for being so welcoming at Alicias debut and to the new karaoke crowd. We all had a great time, with smiles and laughter all around. I’d suggest a longer time slot since there are lots of people wanting to sing, and steps with a rail up to the stage. I have bad knees, so getting on stage is harder, but I didn’t let that stop me. I just sang from the dance floor.
