The place is easy to get to, but the old air conditioner was unreliable. Even with the instructions in the note, it wouldn’t work on our first night until the receptionist kindly came and switched it on the next morning. The following night it kept turning off every two hours. I hope they get these problems fixed soon.

The bathroom and kitchen were huge and very well kept, surprisingly clean too. We arrived late for check-in, but getting the keys from the envelope was easy. We came the day before Good Friday when it was empty, and it was full the next day. Towels weren’t provided. The washer and dryer cost $2 each. Reception can give you taxi drivers’ numbers if you need a ride, as Uber is really hard to get on Phillips Island. Island Pie and the bridge to San Remo are within walking distance.

The kitchen or dining area was surprisingly massive, and it was great value for everything. It was quiet during our stay, which suited us after a long trip when we were completely exhausted. The room was very clean, including the bunk beds, sheets and pillowcases, and the toilets and showers were clean too. Shame towels weren’t included for free, but luckily we’d brought our own.

I’ve stayed here more than a dozen times, usually the night before heading to the race track the next morning. It’s one of my favourite hostels, and the staff are a big reason why. The place is clean, tidy, comfortable and well organised, even for late check-ins. Keep up the great work!
