Four Winds Villas

Newrybar is just two minutes away, with a great cafe for food, coffee and bread, plus a general store. From this peaceful spot above the busy Byron area, it’s easy to reach both the beach, about ten minutes one way, and the beautiful hinterland, two minutes the other way.

It was so windy that I joked Four Winds should be called ‘Forty Winds’, and I couldn’t sleep well with the heat in the upstairs room and the bugs and spiders, especially at night. We left three days early. The place is rustic at best, maybe three stars, and nowhere near luxury. The listing felt very misleading, and it was extremely overpriced for what we got. The owners didn’t seem interested and the Manager didn’t want to get involved. I think the villa needs to be closed until it’s fit to rent and described honestly. The location is beautiful, but the two-storey, two-bedroom villa needs a serious overhaul. It feels stuck in the 90s and has an odd layout. The deck is rotting, with boards and beams that flip up when you walk on them. There were huge active spiders, ants and cockroaches throughout. The entrance has a pool fence in front of the door, like a childcare centre, which is strange. The carpet was heavily stained and smelled damp, and the place was very dirty and needed repainting. Water pressure was poor and the hot water ran out quickly. The sliding doors were rickety, so we wedged cardboard and magazines in them to stop them rattling in the wind. None of the doors locked, including the front door, even though a key was left in it.

Four Winds is in a great spot, near Byron Bay and the beaches, as well as the Hinterland. It was a really relaxing getaway, and the massages were great too. Highly recommend it for a restful break.
