The Federal Hotel

The barman shared poetry over our beers and told lovely stories. He’s got a huge heart: we gave him a pin for his hat, and he donated to the charity without us even asking. The local crew were wonderful too. Such an authentic Aussie pub, and a place well worth visiting. The barman deserves all your respect!

The motel room they upgraded me to had two bunk beds, but it was extremely cramped. The beds were a bit dusty, the floors weren’t clean, and the shower was broken. I didn’t need luxury, just a clean and tidy room. I was a bit disappointed with the stay. Dinner from the hotel restaurant was quickly prepared and averagely priced, but a bit bland.

We chose “Rain from Nowhere” first from the extensive poem list. I didn’t know it, but the barman’s beautiful recitation has stayed in our memories. Then we picked “Mulga Bill’s bicycle”. We’d only stopped for a cool drink at this quintessential Australian country pub, and left feeling we’d found something special. We’ll call in whenever we’re travelling past.

Beds were comfortable, and it was nice and quiet in this old beauty of a pub, over 100 years old. The publican made us feel very welcome and can cook a great meal. Safe off-street parking for the motorcycle was a massive bonus.
