A lovely, spacious guest house set in beautiful surroundings, with a golf course included in the view.

The outlook over the golf course and tree-lined drive was lovely, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We got a 15% discount at the golf club bistro, where the meal was a standard club offering. We’d been warned at check-in about live music, but didn’t hear it. The property is attached to and run by the golf club, and also hosts weddings and functions. The bathroom was spotless, the bed comfortable, and the shower hot with good pressure. When we arrived, the room smelled strongly of bleach, though opening the windows cleared it. Our supposedly spacious double felt a bit small for two nights, but there’s a communal lounge to relax in. If you have mobility issues, check with staff before booking: I didn’t see a lift, and some stairs are steep.

Such an epic place in a beautiful town. It felt like a holiday in Europe, and I’d definitely stay again if I’m lucky enough to visit Orange in the future.

There’s a lot of history in this beautiful building, and the location and views are lovely. But it seems past its best: the staircase smelled of sewage, paint was peeling from the ceiling, the piano was out of tune, and there was dust and dirt everywhere. At 280AUD a night, the maintenance didn’t justify the price. After I insisted, we were given a 25AUD reduction, and I appreciate that gesture of courtesy. Even so, I’m left feeling the hotel should be more consistent about the market it’s trying to attract.
