Britannia on William - Hostel

The locals pointed me to the parmy for lunch, and I'd recommend it too. Fun pub. I wish I could've stayed for drinks, but I had a long drive ahead.

The location is hard to beat. There's a good restaurant with backpacker deals right outside, and lots of other places for food, drinks, coffee, bubble tea and more just a few minutes away on foot. It's a cheap, well located hostel, and the Canadian guy at reception helped me at check-in and again when I extended my stay.

That triple room's top bunk was a nightmare to reach, with no ladder, just the railing, and it wobbled like the Titanic before it sank. I've stayed with you a few times, but even with the nice staff, this was my last visit. I won't recommend it to anyone.

Private rooms cost $65 a night, so people staying for four or five months get no discount or goodwill at all. For that price, sometimes the mattresses are rock hard, sometimes there's no pillow, and there's no air conditioning or furniture to keep belongings in. That's $455 a week, more than Sydney, when solo rooms in the city are $180 a week. Add dirty showers, filthy toilets, and a kitchen with an unbearable smell, and it's wildly overpriced. The kitchen smell is awful enough to make you think the health department should come by. Toilets are a gamble, sometimes filthy with tire marks. Sure, guests may cause some of the mess, but with so many people staying here, the place should clean toilets and showers at least every hour. If someone trims their intimate hair in the shower at 6am and leaves it there, does it really sit until the next morning? Disgusting. They aren't accommodating either. I was leaving for the mines the next day and had only a small backpack I couldn't take with me. I asked to leave it in the luggage room for five days and they said no. Avoid this place and find somewhere else nearby.
