Coolibah Lodge - Hostel

The spa was great, and the bed was very comfortable, but there was no view. It was so hot that I had to leave the air-conditioning on, and its light shone in my face all night. The TV and phone both needed fixing, the sink tap had no cold water, and the lift broke down while I was on the third floor. It’s a very old hotel, so be patient.

The bed and pillows were very comfortable. My smoke alarm kept chirping, but someone came right away and moved me to another room. The woman who checked me in and the man who checked me out were both lovely and helpful. Thank you.

The spa bath was the only good part of our room. It smelled musty, and the view was a patch of roof with air-conditioning units and loud pigeons. Nearly the whole area was covered in pigeon poo. The TV only had free-to-air channels, with no apps, and we couldn't switch to HDMI to connect a Chromecast. Without my laptop, we would've had nothing to watch in the room. The building is nice and the location is great, but the place has fallen into disrepair and needs a lot of urgent maintenance. Our door seemed to be the only one without card access, and had what was clearly a cheap Bunnings doorknob. I don't understand how it keeps its 4-star rating. They need to review that rating and get some smart TVs.

The location was the only good thing about my stay. The room felt dirty, outdated, and run down. Some lights only came on after I flicked the switch several times, and two of the five power points didn't work. One of the working ones was occupied by the fridge. Staff said they'd send an electrician the next day after I reported it, but no one came. The curtains were coming off their hooks, the pillows and mattress had stains, and the room had barely any ventilation for shower steam. Some staff were nice, but the first woman who checked us in had so much attitude and sass. She didn't seem to understand customer service or how to be nice. Before booking, I called to ask about onsite parking. I was told that for a four-night stay it wouldn't be an issue, and to request it online so they could sort it out. They didn't mention the $20-per-night charge until after I arrived. I came to Perth for a nice holiday and left feeling dirty and regretful. When I come back, the only thing I'll look for in a hotel is somewhere that isn't Hotel Northbridge. I hope other people can learn from my mistake booking the Hotel Northbridge. If I could give it zero stars, I would.
