Scarborough & Absolutely Beachfront

The location is the big win: beachfront in the heart of Scarborough, with a sea view. It's clean and good value on a budget, though definitely not five-star. We stayed three nights in this older-style unit, which had two bedrooms, a comfortable queen in one and a double bunk with a single above in the other. There's a full kitchen, air con, a good-sized flat-screen TV, a fully equipped laundry, and covered off-street parking. The beach view was the one good thing. The room smelled strongly of mould when we arrived, the bathroom had no ventilation, and the very old, thin towels were badly worn. The bedding was hard and uncomfortable, and I itched all night. Furniture and cabinets were extremely run down. The fridge froze all our fresh food regardless of the setting, and one stove element didn't work. There was no car park outside our door, and the parking spaces were inadequately numbered. The tenants upstairs were extremely rude and noisy all night. This was the second-worst place I've ever stayed in. We left a day early because we couldn't take any more.

The beds were clean and okay, but the furniture and everything else felt very old. It's budget accommodation in an awesome location, and the units have a lot of potential. I don't know why the owners wouldn't spend some money on them. You get what you pay for.

The view was nice, but the place is dated, with peeling bedroom paint. There was no spare toilet paper, the doors stuck, and the hot water pressure was low.
