European Hotel

After flying in from the UK, we checked in on the 17th February. The receptionist was pleasant, and our room had clean sheets. It was dated but tidy. The bathroom, though, smelled strongly of stale urine. I reported it straight away and asked reception to inspect, but they didn’t check it or do anything after I complained. Management then said there was nothing they could do. I was very disappointed and wouldn’t book again. For what we got, it was overpriced. The room would be worth $100 per night at best if you could keep the toilet door shut, the smell was that bad. There are plenty of options in Perth, so shop around.

The air conditioning was useless and didn’t cool the room at all. The room was also half the size shown in the booking photos, which felt misleading. Staff strictly enforced a 10 PM guest curfew, but that rule wasn’t disclosed in the booking Terms & Conditions, making it feel like a frustrating bait and switch. I can’t recommend the hotel after this disappointing stay. Management should be upfront about room sizes and policies before taking payment.

I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and spacious the room was, with crisp white bedding and a really comfortable bed. The front desk staff were friendly, and the central location, just around the corner from the Liberty Theatre, was ideal for the music act I’d come to see. I’d chosen the hotel for its reasonable price and central spot, despite some recent reviews putting my expectations low. It is a little dated inside and there’s no breakfast service, but it’s great value, and I’d happily stay again.

This place used to be Miss Mauds, a classic Perth icon, as anyone older will remember. It’s not quite what it was, since the food side is gone, but the rooms are nice, the location is good and the price isn’t too bad. We found booking through a wholesaler like bookings.com much cheaper than booking direct, which was oddly expensive. Staff were friendly, we enjoyed our stay, and we’d happily come back.
