The location is perfect for exploring Fremantle, and the YHA is a fantastic place to stay, as always. The rooms are simple but pristine. Our family room had an ensuite and a little bar fridge. There's a huge, well-equipped kitchen, free pancakes on Sunday mornings, and great laundry facilities with 3 washers and 3 dryers.

I loved how many common areas there were, spread around the property, so it was easy to find either a quiet corner or somewhere social. The big kitchen is well equipped, and the architecture is beautiful. I'm glad part of the prison was turned into a hostel, giving the building a new purpose and a chance to learn while travelling. The 4 people dorm I stayed in was nice and spacious. The only downside was the mattress, since you could feel the springs.

There's so much history and so many interesting stories about the prison, which makes staying here an experience in itself. The rooms were clean and fresh, and the staff were super helpful and friendly. It's just 2 mins walk from the markets. I'd definitely recommend it.

The staff were so nice, and the free pancakes on Sunday were much appreciated. The new bathrooms are nice, but the old ones are really old. Beds creak, and the rooms get stuffy. It wasn't very social or cozy, which makes sense since it is a prison after all. It was all right, not bad but not good.
