Quokka Backpackers Hostel Perth - note - Valid passport required to check in

I wouldn’t stay here after how rude the staff member on the phone was. I called to ask whether I could use another form of ID at check-in since I’m Australian and don’t carry my passport when travelling. They said that was the policy, then hung up before I could ask anything else.

It might be okay for one night, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a pleasant stay. Our private room for two had no window, just a small square in the ceiling and an AC. The washrooms and showers were clean enough, though the basins sit right in the hallway. The kitchen and dining room were dirty and poorly maintained.

I lived in this hostel for six months. It’s a great place overall despite missing some amenities, and the friendly, laid-back backpacker atmosphere was what made it enjoyable. Since Steven, a new staff member, arrived, that warm, welcoming vibe has changed. He acts like a police officer and doesn’t seem to do his job properly: there have been booking issues, misunderstandings, and my belongings were removed for no reason. He’s ruined the atmosphere that made people want to stay here.

The location is really good, and it’s a fairly cheap place to sleep. Our small private room had no proper windows, just a little ceiling one that wouldn’t open, though the air conditioning worked well. The bathrooms and showers were fine, and the kitchen had that relaxed, not-too-clean hostel feel. Perth doesn’t have many hostels, so it’s a reasonable option, but I didn’t think the place was that great overall.
