Hotel Northbridge

The bed was very comfortable and the spa was great, but the air-conditioning had to stay on because it was so hot, and its light shone in my face all night. The TV and phone needed fixing, there was no cold water from the sink tap, and the lift broke down while I was on the third floor. It’s a very old hotel, so be patient. I had no view.

The best part of our stay was the housekeeping team. They were kind, polite and helpful throughout, and made a real difference. The room we’d booked wasn’t available when we arrived, which was disappointing and stressful after a long day. The hotel feels old and run down, with plenty of potential but in need of care and updates. We were also woken by a staff member because of a mistake about checkout time, which was frustrating and could have been handled better. There are good people working here, but the hotel’s management and condition need to improve.

The room smelled musty, and the only TV option was free-to-air. The TVs weren’t smart TVs, and we couldn’t switch to HDMI to connect a Chromecast, so without my laptop we’d have had nothing to watch. The building is nice and the location is great, but the hotel has fallen into disrepair and needs urgent maintenance. Our room door seemed to be the only one without card access, fitted with what was clearly a cheap Bunnings doorknob. I’m not sure how it keeps its four-star rating. The only good thing in the room was the spa bath. The view was of part of the roof, covered with air-conditioning units and loud pigeons, and nearly the whole area was caked in pigeon poo. The rating needs reviewing, and the hotel needs some smart TVs.

The location is the only thing I liked about Hotel Northbridge. The room felt dirty, worn out, and badly overdue for an update. Some lights only came on after I flicked the switch several times, and two of the five power points didn't work. The one that did was taken up by the fridge. Staff said an electrician would come the next day after I reported it, but nobody showed. The curtains were slipping off their hooks, the pillows and mattress had stains, and the room barely ventilated the steam from the shower. Parking was another unpleasant surprise. Before booking, I called to ask about it and was told that four nights would be fine if I requested parking online. They didn't mention the $20 nightly charge until I arrived. Some staff were kind, but the woman who first checked us in was rude and full of attitude. I came to Perth for a relaxing holiday and left feeling grubby and regretful. If I return, I'll look anywhere except Hotel Northbridge. I wish other people could avoid the mistake I made booking it. I'd give it zero stars if I could.
