The location is a real highlight: Murray Street Mall is only a one-minute walk away, and Uber or Didi pickups were easy, usually arriving within a minute. There’s also a 20% discount at Anaya Café Restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was delicious and the service excellent. I booked a Queen Room at Kangaroo Inn on Murray Street. It was clean, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the bathroom and toilet were spotless. There’s a water filter at reception for filling bottles, plus a basement kitchen for guests. The kitchen had a slight smell and looked a little untidy when I visited, though some guests were cooking, so that may depend on how people use it. The basement recreational area was clean and well maintained. My only small disappointment was that my request for a 30-minute late checkout, at 11:00 AM instead of 10:30 AM, wasn’t approved. Most places are usually flexible for at least an hour. Otherwise, this was a comfortable stay and great value, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Perth.

I slept so well in the cozy, thick bedding, and the shared female-only room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. They cleaned the bathroom often, which I appreciated. Staff and the caretaker were very accommodating, and free luggage storage was handy. Affordable, really pleasant stay. I loved it and would definitely come back!

I’ve spent about four weeks here while working in Perth, and I return whenever I need a place to stay. Management is understanding and quick to sort out problems. It’s an affordable hostel in central Perth, with a weekly rate of $50 a night. People are calm and friendly, and there are plenty of places to relax, both outside and downstairs. The air conditioning works well in the bedrooms and shared spaces. The large kitchen is well equipped and cleaned regularly, as are the bathrooms.

I was told by a hostel receptionist that I could get my money back if I submitted a refund request, so I requested a cancellation more than 24 hours before my reservation. When I followed up, I was told the policies didn’t cover a refund, contradicting the information their staff had given me. They then said they would check whether they could offer anything because of the employee’s mistake. After several phone calls back and forth and being asked to return to reception in person, I got only close to 40% of what I’d paid for a whole week. That left me with a significant loss because of the misinformation and the way reception handled it. The employee dealing with me was unprofessional and misleading, with no accountability. He also seemed to smell of alcohol, which made the interaction feel even more inappropriate and concerning. This was an unreliable and poorly managed experience. They gave incorrect information, then relied on “policies” when it suited them. I strongly recommend avoiding the hostel if you value honest and fair treatment.
