Mercure Perth On Hay

The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable, and well looked after, so it was easy to relax. Staff were so helpful, friendly, and accommodating, especially Parht and James, who made me feel very welcome. I had a really lovely stay and would recommend the hotel. I'd be happy to come back.

I booked at the last minute and got a great rate, plus an upgrade to a balcony room. The room was clean and spacious, the bed was comfy, and the location was handy for the city. Check-in and checkout were easy. Great value for money.

After leaving, we booked at the doubletree by Hilton and were welcomed with warm cookies. We ended up leaving this place after asking for a refund twice. The first time, after we found the room filthy, they offered an upgrade. It wasn't any better: there was a strip eyelash stuck to the balcony floor, thick black hair all over it, and the upgraded room began to smell like mariju**** despite being a non-smoking hotel. When we went back to reception, they replied, “Oh was the upgrade not good enough for ya”. Anyone offered something they hadn't paid for should be treated politely and respectfully. We'd arrived after a long, tiring flight and had seen underground parking, though it was more like a goolag, especially for our small car. Clean towels and sheets were stored in metal cages out in the open in the car park, and who knows what could be crawling around there. We still checked in. In the room we found crumbs and dust everywhere, makeup marks on the walls, hair all over, random black marks on pillows and towels, mould in the bathroom, and cut dirty toenails on the floor. I wasn't going to risk getting bitten by bugs while asleep. When we asked reception for a refund because the room was filthy, they offered a room upgrade instead. I've stayed at many hotels, plenty that weren't glamorous, but this was downright dangerously disgusting. Unless you're desperate for somewhere to stay, don't even set foot in this place.

We stayed at the Mercure Perth On Hay in 2024, in rooms 903 and 904, from the 22nd to the 23rd. I emailed a complaint that year and only found it again while clearing out my emails. They'd promised to reply within two business days, but it's 2026 and they still haven't answered. The lobby was lovely and renovated, and the staff were courteous and professional. The rest of the experience fell well short of what I expected from a four-star hotel. Room 904 had no door latch, which made me worry about safety and security. It was very dusty, the sheets were unclean, and instead of a proper duvet cover there was a large sheet being used as a makeshift cover. The old lamps were all crooked and added to the neglected feel. The room and whole floor smelled strongly of smoke, as if someone had been smoking there for years, despite it being a non-smoking room. There was little sunlight, and the floor felt dingy and unwelcoming. The elevator had gross handprints that needed cleaning. The bathroom was dingy and grotty too, and one shower tap had visible erosion, suggesting poor maintenance. I hope they address these problems so other guests don't have the same experience. The lovely lobby and excellent staff were the only redeeming parts of the stay. I hoped that care would extend through the building.
