North Coogee Beach House

The location was convenient, and the owner responded quickly. But there were a lot of problems during our stay. The internet didn’t work when we arrived. The owner said it was a network issue, but it turned out they needed a new modem. I spent an hour on the phone with the provider, then a technician had to come over. The owner said he wouldn’t need to enter, which seemed strange, and he did need to come inside at 8am. Fortunately, we were already up and out of bed. The front door lock instructions only arrived by email after we got there, so with no internet we couldn’t access them. We couldn’t use the door until the owner’s son came about the internet and showed us how the lock worked. The code of conduct was sent after booking, emailed again, included in the welcome booklet, and printed in a large frame on the living room wall. Rules are understandable, but the big framed notice made it hard to feel at home. Every light switch also had a ‘turn off after use’ note. I understand wanting to keep bills low, but that felt ridiculous and unwelcoming. We were told the owner would put the bins out on bin day, but it didn’t happen, and the garage where they were stored became very smelly. We’d have put them out ourselves if we’d known. Supplies were minimal: one toilet roll per toilet, no paper towels or basics like milk, just one chipped wine glass, and no small plates. The house looked clean, but under the beds and behind the microwave were really dusty. You could hear every noise through the house, from birds on the roof to the loud aircon and people talking downstairs, and the walls were very thin. The tumble drier didn’t work, kitchen utensils were limited if you wanted to cook proper meals, and each person only had one bath towel. In the main bathroom, the shower took ages to get hot and had very low water pressure, so washing my hair took a long time.

Really nice 👍, I just wish we could have stayed longer.
