Room 2, the queen ensuite, was neat, clean and cozy, with fast, reliable free WiFi. Most of Fremantle's attractions are within walking distance. Breakfast was included, with cereal, bread and yogurt.

The people upstairs were noisy very early, around 5 or 6am, and stayed loud until midnight on Saturday, so we barely slept. The Courtyard Cottage is downstairs, so if noise bothers you, you might prefer a place upstairs. We also wished tea had been provided. Even so, it had lots of character, and the courtyard was a lovely, cool place on a hot summer day where our 15-month-old could safely run around, though she did break an ornament. It was close to everything in Fremantle, and we really appreciated the owners letting us check in early so our toddler could nap.

The noise was so loud that I didn't sleep, and I didn't even stay for breakfast before packing up and leaving. We could hear people walking upstairs, a TV down the hall, and people coming and going. We booked one night in the pet-friendly accommodation for a wedding and told the owner by phone. When one of our dogs started barking because she was frightened by the noise, I got an abusive call from the owner and had to go back to the room. I've never stayed somewhere less suitable for pets, and I work with animals. I'd avoid it if you have pets. The owners shouldn't advertise it as pet friendly and expect other dogs to tolerate noise just because their own dog grew up there. It's also unrealistic to expect owners to stay in the room every minute.

I can't comment on the rooms because I only called, but the man who answered for reception was really rude. The website showed $100 a night, and when he quoted me $120, I called to check the price. He said that if I wanted the backpacker price, this wasn't the place I was looking for. When I asked if he could email me some information, he replied that he'd already told me over the phone. Ridiculous service. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
