Martinique on Macrossan

The common area has thoughtful extras, including an ice machine and chilled water dispenser, and they provide beach chairs and towels too. Our condo had everything we needed, plus a couple of useful things in the kitchen. It’s conveniently located near the beach and shops. The managers were helpful with suggestions for places to visit around Port Douglas.

They were really helpful before we arrived, offering recommendations and booking tours and restaurants for us. The apartments are lovely and spacious for two, in a small adults-only complex. It’s very peaceful, even though you’re perfectly placed for 4 mile beach and the restaurants and bars along the high street.

Ken, the man in charge, is welcoming and friendly, and happy to help if you ask. The location is great, right on Macrossan Street beside Four Mile Beach, so shops, sand and sea are an easy stroll away. My apartment had a large bed in a nice bedroom, an ensuite with a good shower, a kitchenette for basic cooking, dining table and chairs, settee and TV. There was also a pleasant little balcony looking out over trees. A few things could be better. The TV is small and has no free-to-air channels. Without other guests signing in to their accounts, which is a serious security risk, we’d have had nothing to watch. I tried public options like YouTube, but the internet was Third World. The small, pretty heated pool felt freezing, so my wife and I didn’t swim. I saw just one person use it during our stay. Room servicing is roughly every four days, which compares well with our other resort in Palm Cove, but the timing can be awkward if you need a shower or toilet. The lovely Yorkshire lady doing the work is on a schedule. Our unit also had a strange smell. I stopped noticing it after a while, but when I mentioned it, I was told about the plug-in air freshener, which wasn’t the answer I expected or wanted. Even with those issues, Martinique is a great place to stay, and I’d happily recommend it for a Port Douglas holiday.

The one downside was having no lift. Carrying heavy suitcases up several flights of stairs is no fun. We stayed for a week in June 2025, and the hosts were pleasant, the pool area was wonderful, and the king bed was amazingly comfortable. Recommended.
