Thala is in a fantastic location, and the resort is lovely, though it feels a bit dated. The rooms are comfortable, but they’re missing things many people now consider basic, especially WiFi. The TVs are also too small. Food choices were limited and expensive, so guests ended up driving to Port Douglas for better prices and more options. That feels like a missed opportunity for Thala. The staff were wonderful. Dave in particular was charming, knowledgeable and great company on a walk around the site. The bar staff were friendly and attentive, though the two cocktails and spirits we tried were easily better in Port Douglas. I can still recommend Thala, but the team needs to raise its game if they want the place to thrive.

I love Thala and have stayed here before, in 2000 and 2013, so I booked again without hesitation. This visit was nice, but it no longer felt amazing. The location is still as wonderful as ever, and every staff member we met was friendly and helpful. Bar service was very good, too. The rooms, though, are getting tired, and having no WiFi in them isn’t acceptable anymore. Even people in the outback have super fast WiFi these days, thanks to Elon Musk. The food was only okay. My lamb cutlets had virtually no lean meat, just fat, and were inedible. Mine were okay, and I mentioned the issue, but my wife doesn’t like making a fuss. There was the same menu every day, with no specials, and it didn’t feel very creative. The chef needs to be more careful about what’s served. Also, please check the room corners once in a while. On arrival, the milk was only half full, clearly left that way by the previous guests and not replaced. That’s never acceptable. A special mention for Larney (?), the massage therapist. My wife and I both thought her treatment was amazing, right up there with the best. Staying at the top is never easy, and you’ve done a very good job for many years. Thala needs a serious refresh, better room quality control, refurbished rooms, a changing restaurant menu and quality WiFi. When those improvements happen, I’ll be back. Good luck getting back there.

The beaches and pool were beautiful, and the food was amazing. Every member of staff was so kind and accommodating, and they made my best friend’s birthday feel really special. Mariah was especially lovely as she answered my many questions and gave us some amazing recommendations. Anna, thank you for getting us back to our room from Port Douglas when we hadn’t arranged a shuttle in time. We appreciated everything so much. We’ll miss room 82 and are definitely coming back. We even talked about making an annual trip to Thala. Can’t recommend the place or the amazing staff enough 🩷🫶

Thala is one of my favorite places on earth. While travelling solo around Australia, I stayed here and the team helped arrange a dive trip and transport to and from my bird-watching trip on the daintree. They’re so kind, the food is wonderful, and the property is INCREDIBLE. I loved wandering the trails and seeing so many incredible birds. The grounds team kindly pointed me towards different spots to see birds, mammals and reptiles. I truly couldn't recommend Thala Beach Nature Reserve more highly.

Set in the rainforest with ocean views, this is a great place to stay. We’ve just checked out, and the service from Brett was outstanding. He took us on a nature tour that was interesting, informative and beautiful. Sam was extremely helpful and kind as well. Thala has some great staff.
