The Lighthouse - Beachfront Accommodation

The Lighthouse is a big house with everything we needed to be comfortable, and the views were gorgeous. Even in winter, watching a storm roll in was just perfect. We had an amazing stay and can’t wait to return!

The back lawn was knee-high, soaked, and clearly hadn’t been mowed for months. It was hard to walk through, the dog paws got wet, and we even had to clean up dog poop already there. That’s a pretty rough start for a $465-a-night stay. The rug downstairs was grubby, stained, and smelled of dogs. The windows were so filthy we couldn’t see the view, and there was nothing supplied to clean them. The listing showed chaise lounges and a coffee maker that weren’t there. There was nothing in the pantry, not even basics like oil or alfoil, so we had to bring those ourselves. Each person got one small towel, with no extra towels or linens at all. We ran out of toilet paper after finding just one spare roll. For six people over two nights, there were only two tea towels. The washing machine was broken, and there was no drinking water, just tap water. The only cleaning product was half a bottle of cheap decanted dishwashing liquid. It felt like a place set up just to make money, with no care for repeat guests. I tried to get a reasonable response from the owner, but she only texted sorry about the lawn and ignored the other comments. Won’t be back, and can’t recommend it for the price.

There was plenty of room for up to 14 people, with one ensuite, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, BBQ, TVs, and toys for the kids. But the kitchen fridge had a stale prawn smell, and the kitchen floor was grimy and needed a proper wash. All the tiled areas needed cleaning. Some cupboard doors need replacing too, and the whole place could use a detailed clean or a fresh coat of paint.

The bins were already full and stank of fish when we arrived, and they weren’t collected during our four-day stay. The BBQs were filthy, the washing machine filter was overflowing, and cigarette butts were left in a full ashtray. TV reception didn’t work at all. It’s 2024, and there wasn’t even Wi-Fi.
