I travel often and usually choose small independent places, so I’ve seen plenty of different kinds of hospitality. My conversation with Jenny and Jean was among the most disappointing and unprofessional experiences I can remember. I contacted the property for help and was met with a rude, dismissive response that left me feeling like my question was a nuisance. A business can have an off day, but that first interaction left a very bad impression. I didn’t feel welcomed, respected, or valued, and the service fell well below what I’d expect in accommodation. I wouldn’t recommend the property to other travellers. There are many places that take professional, welcoming service seriously, and this wasn’t one of them. After many years in hospitality, if this is how potential guests are treated, it may be worth reconsidering whether customer-facing work is still what they want to do.

We had such a good time here as a family. My husband, the boys (7 & 6), and I found everything we needed for our Huon Valley stay. The heated pool looking over the Huon River was a highlight, and we could get down to the jetty to fish too. The Anchorage Waterfront Retreat was just as described, clean and comfortable, with amazing beds, a full kitchen, washing machine and dryer. It was the perfect base for our vacation. Highly recommend.

Our hosts were thoughtful and responsive while still giving us plenty of space. The apartment itself is spacious, bright and nicely decorated, right on the Huon River, with undercover parking, a pool and sauna. There’s enough to see within an easy drive to fill several days. The kitchen was well stocked with tea, coffee pods, oil, clingwrap, milk and fresh eggs. We also appreciated the handy laundry and the lovely toiletries in the bathroom.

The hosts left us a few little treats when we arrived, which was a lovely touch. We spent Christmas at the Anchorage Waterfront retreat and had a really relaxing week. The place was quiet, clean and tidy, with all the things you need to feel at home. We made good use of the heated pool, swimming almost every day, and had a turn in the sauna too. I’d highly recommend it if you’re visiting the Huon Valley.
