Toppy's bistro gets busy, but the meals still come out promptly. The Monday and Tuesday lunch or dinner deal is hard to beat: $12.50 for a massive chicken snitty or $18 for rump, each with two sides and your choice of sauce or gravy. You leave full and satisfied. We didn't rent a room, but the staff were good and the food service was handled well. The main disappointment was the meat on our pizzas. My firebreather and my partner's JD bbq both looked great and tasted good, but the chicken and pulled beef were almost as dry as the crust. The firebreather was also barely spicy, maybe a 1/10. Still, we had a good time and I'd come back.

I only came for dinner, not an overnight stay. The food was delicious, and the menu offered plenty of gluten-free choices at decent prices. Great value, too.

A few guests have also said the locked hotel door can make it tricky to get in at times. The restaurant or bistro serves lunch and dinner, and there's free WiFi, free parking and a drive-thru bottle shop. Food is good pub fare rather than gourmet, and some guests have found the vegetarian choices limited. This isn't a high-end hotel, but it offers informal, affordable accommodation with character, good food and a friendly bar. If quiet, en-suite comfort or high-end amenities matter most, consider those trade-offs.
