Those valley views are incredible, and the gardens are full of lovely mature native trees. At night, the place is so quiet, and the breeze coming through windows on both sides made the beds feel cool and comfortable. We had plenty of room for the kids to play games on the floor. They were also thrilled by the toys, games, ponies wandering the lawns, and the pool noodles and water pistols. Breakfast was a nice extra, especially the thick-cut bacon. The hotel feels dated, but it's very well looked after, and the hosts are warm and welcoming. I also appreciated the effort they put into recycling, including giving food scraps to the ponies. That earned the fifth star from me.

The animals were a big highlight for us: Bob the turtle, Penny the chicken, Honey the beagle who loves bacon, and Bonnie and Honey the carrot-loving ponies. The new owners are lovely, and we enjoyed a campfire where we could roast marshmallows. The weather didn't cooperate, but we still had a great family holiday. It's a peaceful spot and close enough to get around Mount Tamborine. The beds were good, and I loved the spa bath. Things look a little dated, though I'm sure the owners will update them when they can. We'd definitely return to see the animals again, and might book the two-bedroom room with a balcony next time.

Waking up to the ponies was my favourite part. The gardens and pool look out towards Surfer's Paradise, and the setting feels lovely and rural. The rooms were clean and nicely presented, and breakfast was included for us to cook ourselves. Management were really friendly. I'd happily recommend it.

The morning mist over the mountains is beautiful, and the owners, Kirsten and Kevin, made us feel so well looked after. They pointed us towards local restaurants and things to do, including some of their own favourites. The retreat has a cosy cottage feel, a little like staying with your grandparents, and there's plenty of wildlife around. If the ponies come over, treats seem to be the trick. It was a lovely escape from busy everyday life, and I'd stay again. The one drawback was the wifi. It dropped out often and wasn't very strong. If you're happy to unplug and relax, though, that may suit you just fine.

The owners, Kirsten and Kevin, were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The rooms, grounds, and views are all beautiful, and it's a lovely place to unwind. Aaronlee Retreat is probably my favourite place I've stayed, and I'll definitely be back.
