Risdon Brook Hotel

We spent four nights here and slept extremely well most nights, sometimes for 10 hours. The bed was so comfortable, and the clean rooms were comfortable too. There was no outside noise from the roads, the staff were friendly, and the restaurant meals were top notch. I’d definitely stay here again.

So delicious. Everything came out hot, and my beef schnitzel was one of the best I’ve ever had.

It was my grandfather’s 80th, and I was really looking forward to taking him out for lunch with my family. Some of them left happy, but I came away disappointed with the service, the food and the wait. We waited about an hour before being told they’d run out of beef schnitzels. There was very little communication between the staff and our table. Then it was another 30 minutes or more before most of the food arrived. Mine came 10-15 minutes later still, and I think they forgot it. We paid extra for a Caesar salad after having to change our order, and got no apology or compensation. I know it was a busy time with some large tables, but the lack of communication was hard to understand. I’ve worked in hospitality long enough to know how awkward this was, and others seemed to feel the same way. I don’t think I want to come back unless something changes.

We decided to eat somewhere else after learning they’d run out of gas and only had six menu items available. We weren’t told about the problem until after we’d ordered drinks, which was disappointing. Management should have communicated it clearly before service began.
