The room was reasonably clean, but there was no BBQ available, the spa wasn’t working, and the pool shut at 5 pm. Reception told us she was only a cleaner and that the pool closed when she left at five. I think the place may have new management, because the older man who was there last year was so welcoming and helpful.

The two-bedroom studio TV never worked, and they couldn’t fix it. We asked for compensation and didn’t get any, so we’re still waiting. The pool also shuts early at 5 pm, which was disappointing. The receptionist was quite nasty. We already knew the usual pool rules, like no glass, but when we were having canned drinks as a family, she strictly told us no alcohol. She went to the office and put up a new sign with blue tack. She seemed snooty and keen to dictate the mood of a family holiday.

The rooms need updating, and the beds were very hard and uncomfortable. They advertise a pool and spa, but the spa was covered up and out of use. On the second morning we had no hot water, so I called the owner. There was no apology. She sent a maintenance man, who couldn’t fix it and had to call a plumber. It still wasn’t sorted by our 10 am departure, so I had to travel to our next destination without a shower. Just not good enough. This was my second stay, but I won’t return or recommend it 😕

I’m from New South Wales and always figured South Australia was where water went to retire. With the salty lakes, the Murray’s distinctive taste and all those dry stretches, I imagined the showers would be more of a ceremonial mist than anything useful. Then Robetown Motor Inn & Apartments gave me the best shower pressure I’ve had in over 20 years. I was so surprised I half expected the council to fine me for standing under it.
