The kitchen was my main frustration, especially the atrocious oven, which was temperamental and hard to use. A slotted spoon and spatulas would also be useful basics, and it would be nice to have more glassware for cocktails. Most of the seating was incredibly uncomfortable, and the upstairs floor creaked enough to affect guests below. The house itself is lovely, airy and spacious, with high ceilings and fans. It’s very clean and sits in a beautiful setting, so it’s an attractive option for larger groups in Pokolbin. The comfortable beds and high ceilings are real pluses. It seems much better suited to summer than winter, though, as the concrete floors make it feel cold. There were problems with noise rules too. Local bylaws said we had to move inside after 11, but “security” stopped our charades game at 10.30pm, which was annoying but manageable. The next night a very large group of partygoers were making plenty of noise, then a blower vac started at 6.15am on Sunday. Those downsides, especially the kitchen, took away from the stay.

Dogwood’s central spot in the Hunter Valley made it easy to do a wine tasting tour. I came for a friend’s birthday, and the place was beautifully decorated with loads of space, including a huge kitchen and living area. There were 12 of us, with queen bedrooms and bunk rooms. We celebrated, drank and danced. I don’t know what it cost since my friend booked it, but I’d recommend it to anyone organising a get together with friends.

We spent a week here and found it especially suited to a group of eight or more. The indoor spaces are roomy, nicely decorated and well equipped. The natural setting is beautiful too. Looking forward to the restaurant complex being finished.

Such a fantastic weekend away with the girls. The renovation is beautiful and it has all the modern amenities. We especially loved the outside deck, with its golf course and sunset views. Highly recommend!
