I was too sick to travel for my fifth wedding anniversary weekend after coming down with pneumonia, and needed to stay near a hospital. I’d booked Barca View Cottage, but the owners wouldn’t offer any refund, even the 50% I would have accepted, or let me move the booking to another weekend. I sent medical documentation and explained that I hadn’t simply changed my mind because I was mildly unwell. I had no control over being unable to go, and was hoping for some compassion. Instead, I’m left out of pocket, very ill, and upset. I’d give zero stars if I could.

The cottage is cute, well located, and nicely appointed, but the servicing really lacked attention. There was a clump of hair under the master bedroom doona and another in the shower. The kitchen cupboard items were wet, and the washing up rack was dirty and soaked, with a dead cockroach in it. Pantry supplies were well out of date, too. The heater wasn’t enough to get the place warm. Then, a day after we arrived, construction started next door. So much for a chillaxed holiday, it was loud.

We’re loving this little sea house, tucked away among the trees. Such a lovely atmosphere and location, and it’s got everything we need. The decorations are lovely too. X
