We were pleasantly surprised by the family room at Snowy Gums. It was warm and spacious, with a heated bathroom that felt essential after cold days on the slopes. The adults had a great loft retreat, while the kids loved the bunks downstairs. The food was hearty and generous, and the cozy bar had nice drinks and mulled wine for the evenings. We chose it during the school holidays because family skiing is getting so expensive, and it was much more affordable than other family room options at peak season. The location in Smiggins is ideal for beginners, with an easy walk to the lifts and no daily bus juggling with the kids. We knew it was no-frills, but it offered more than expected. Emma, the manager, made the stay especially memorable. I didn't realize I'd left my snow blades until I was all the way back in Sydney, and she went above and beyond by arranging to send them back on the bus the following weekend. What a legend. OzSnow has really evolved and is great for families now, beyond the ski trips I remembered from years ago. If you want to save hundreds compared with other Perisher accommodation while keeping slope access and caring service, Snowy Gums is a fantastic option. Highly recommend it for families who want good value without giving up location or service.

The staff were friendly and did the best they could in the circumstances, but we were disappointed with our stay. Two beers on the first night were flat, so we had to take them back. The rooms and bathrooms needed a proper clean: there was brown buildup in a shower corner, hair throughout the bathroom, dust and cobwebs. The dining room tables hadn't been wiped, and the food was very disappointing. The fire wasn't used and the TVs didn't work. We'd stayed before and had a great experience, but the place needs a thorough clean and better upkeep.

We were a group of 11 and stayed for three days. The lunch included in our booking was supposed to be a chicken burger with vegetables, chips and a drink. Instead, the chicken was less than a portion, the bread roll was cold and untoasted, and there were no chips. Nobody told us the chips wouldn't be provided, and we were still charged in full. The poor quality of the food and careless service made this an extremely disappointing experience. The lack of honesty about what they could actually serve showed disregard for guests, and the meal was far from what our package promised. I have photos showing the meals. If you value your money, time and holiday, avoid this place.

The included breakfast was fine and the location was good, but pay extra and stay somewhere else. It's cheap, and our room felt like an afterthought cut into the eaves, with no headroom. The sheets clearly hadn't been changed, with someone else's hair all over them. The bathroom in the main kitchen hadn't been cleaned and overflowed all night. One of the doors didn't have a stall.

The Saturday party was awesome, and the lodge has a great atmosphere. Snowy Gums Lodge is cozy, well maintained and has stunning views over the snow-covered landscape. I stayed there in Perisher in June 2025, and Mark's efficient, warm management was clear from the moment I arrived. He makes sure guests feel at home. The staff were friendly and accommodating, going above and beyond to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. They offered local tips and helped with requests, and the hospitality was wonderful. I highly recommend Snowy Gums Lodge for a memorable stay in Perisher and can't wait to return. And don't miss the steak, hands down the best bang for your buck in the Valley.
