Redan Apartments

There was mould all over the rooms, and it ruined most of our clothes. The real estate agents hadn't told us about it. Staff were unfriendly and couldn't help with even simple questions. Disgusting. I wouldn't bring an animal here, let alone children.

The children at St Michael’s School, right across the road, are exposed to broken glass, needles, and a frightening environment. Elderly neighbours say they can't even sell their homes because this one property has devalued the street. This is hurting the whole neighbourhood, as well as the people inside the building. This is NOT A MOTEL. DO NOT STAY HERE. IT IS DANGEROUS. Launch Housing should be ashamed of its involvement in managing or placing people at 25 Redan Street, St Kilda. The building is overwhelmed by violence, drug abuse, filth, and frequent police call-outs. I've personally seen residents abused, evicted onto the street, and left in tents in the carpark while still being charged “rent” for those unsafe spaces. Launch Housing presents itself as a charity for disadvantaged people, but what I've witnessed looks much more like exploitation. Vulnerable people are being sent into dangerous, degrading conditions that aren't fit for people to live in. If Launch Housing had any integrity, it would stop sending vulnerable people into these appalling conditions and take responsibility. Until then, it shouldn't be trusted with public money or the care of the people most in need.

The security situation was what frightened me most. People experiencing homelessness and intoxicated people wandered around the property, and some entered the building without staff stepping in. People loitered in the halls, the door lock barely worked, and I spent the night worrying someone might break in. I felt unsafe the whole time. The room was filthy and run down, with dust and grime everywhere and stained linens that clearly hadn't been washed for a long time. Bedbugs were crawling on the mattress, so I couldn't sleep without worrying about bites. Flies and other insects were swarming around, including on the bed. The bathroom was just as bad. The broken shower barely ran, and the water was either freezing or scalding. There was mould along the tile edges, and the sink looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The place felt unsanitary and unsafe. It was a health hazard and completely unfit for guests. I'm shocked it's still operating. Redan Apartments should be avoided, stay anywhere else.

Mould and bugs everywhere, and the place was very dirty. I wouldn't let my dog live here.
